Dating from 1405, this medieval font is one of only two pre-Reformation fonts left in London. The octagonal base is a common feature of fonts -- the number 8 is associated with resurrection and rebirth, because the Resurrection occured 8 days after Christ entered Jerusalem. It's hard to tell in this picture, but the end caps of the ribs on the font cover are carved like monks' heads.
